Recently, Computer Science has become part of the Flemish compulsory education. In his Phd, Tom contributed to the integration of Computer Science in education by comparing teaching strategies, formulating guidelines for assessment, and developing digital tools tailored to the current needs in schools.

Computer science is becoming an increasingly important part of primary and secondary education. Unfortunately, there are many unknowns about how to integrate computer science effectively in schools. Moreover, these unknowns are distributed across multiple areas of policy and practice. In his PhD research, Tom identified some of these unknowns and formulated some possible solutions. He mainly focused on supporting teaching practice but also formulated insights which can be helpful for making policy decisions.

In the future, Tom will focus on the open-source programming and simulation tool for education, Dwengo Bockly, and the implementation of teaching strategies at Dwengo vzw!
